Tashi Gomang Shedra Project
Tulku Orgyen Zangpo Rinpoche and The Compassion Fellowship are currently working on building a Dharma college or shedra for Tashi Gomang Monastery. The land for this has already been purchased; the next step is constructing the building. Fifty-five monks are eagerly awaiting the completion of the building so that they can continue their studies in pursuit of the equivalent of a master's degree in Buddhist studies.
Because there is no shedra or university in this area at this time, the monks cannot continue their dharma education. Without a group of well-educated shedra graduates, the lineage of Tashi Gomang Monastery will be endangered and its future existence uncertain.
It is Tulku Orgyen Zangpo Rinpoche's vision that the curriculum of this shedra be expanded beyond traditional Tibetan dharma studies to include proficiency in both English and Chinese language. As all parts of our world grow ever more interconnected, fluency in English and Chinese will be vital in enabling the graduates of Tashi Gomang Shedra to effectively share their teachings on peace and happiness with many others beyond Tibet.
The vision of creating a shedra for Tashi Gomang has been an aspiration since 1930, when Tarthang Gochen Tulku Chukchi first envisioned this project. Many Rinpoches and lamas since that time have embraced this dream, whose fruition has been blocked by various obstacles until this moment. Now, the path seems clear and we, the students of Tulku Orgyen Zangpo Rinpoche have a very precious opportunity to participate in preserving the future of Tashi Gomang Monastery and the sacred teachings of this lineage.
Without our financial support, it will be impossible for this very poor community to purchase the materials to build this Tibetan dharma university. Fifty-five students are ready to continue their studies. A qualified professor, Khenpo Thubten Mindrol, is already in residence at Tashi Gomang Monastery. Visiting Khenpos from Serthar and Tarthang Monasteries have agreed to teach periodically at the new shedra. A location has been chosen and the land purchased.
The only remaining variable in the realization of this dream is financial support for the physical building. Your contribution at this time will help to perpetuate Tibetan Buddhism and the lineage of Tashi Gomang Monastery for many generations to come.
